Last week has been the greatest challenge for me in terms of getting over a hangover… wait… I mean my friend’s wedding hangover. Getting separated from your friends after 4 days of unlimited fun and joining back office is believe me, not a pleasant situation to be in, especially when you have hundreds of beautiful pictures on your phone that take you back to those wonderful days…Argh! Someone take me back! *That ain’t happening you dramatic girl, so better get back to reality*
You know we all have a bucket list for our own wedding but so do we have one for our friend’s wedding, especially if she is the first in the group! And you don’t just start planning it when the first one gets hitched. The planning starts much earlier than that! Back in our hostel days, when the last days of graduation were approaching near, all we could wonder was- “When will all six of us meet again- Probably in the first wedding of the group? Will we all be able to make it to the wedding together or someone would just ditch and not show up at all? Will the friendship remain the same or will we move apart and find new friends making the old friendships fade away? Finally, Who would get married first?”- and the speculations would begin from there!
Just as the time for the wedding date approaches near, the number of chats on WhatsApp groups increases. From the sangeet songs to the wedding gift, from booking the tickets to deciding the outfits, the group chats are like a virtual family hall drama where everyone has gathered and everyone is only yelling to make themselves loud and clear and conclusions are only drawn at the last moment.
The charm of meeting your hostel friends after years of parting is unparalleled. No matter how your life has changed from the last time you met each other, these idiots make you realize “are ye to abhi bhi waisi he hai, woi harkate hai“. It’s like feeling those good old days yet again.
I think a friend’s wedding is the only wedding where you can have all sorts of fun regardless of who might judge you. LOL! There is so much drama in your own family weddings, isn’t it *mean alert*. No, but truly, look at this way- Noone’s pressurizing you to go get social with everyone or touch feet of random relatives who you hardly know. All you have to do is eat, talk, dress up, dance and repeat. It’s so much easier to even dress up with your friends. You can style each other, exchange accessories, they will tell you thousands of poses and not get tired of clicking your pictures. Because, hey they are gonna ask you for the same favor next :-p
Amongst all the fun, there are also certain emotional moments here and there. Seeing the bride’s side get a tad emotional makes you get a lump in your throat. That’s not it! When you actually see her with her partner for life as she is standing by his side getting directed by the photographer for all those cliché poses, you know she is taken forever. Probably now she won’t be readily available to answer your calls or maybe she will, but her priorities would change.
Did I mention about the fights? Oh-boy, some things never change. Whether you stay 24*7 together for three years or you meet after five years for a couple of days, if you’ve not had a fight (like not an actually serious one) but a difference in opinion on (things I wouldn’t mention here *my girls will kill me if I do*), you have lost the spark in your bonding.
Nevertheless, some reunions are worth looking forward to. At least this one was! From enjoying the real moments to the ones captured as a reel moment, this was one heck of a reunion. Complete satisfaction of making those dreamy filmy poses into a reality and now captured beautifully as moments we will cherish throughout our life, here is a glimpse of the wedding, from Day 1 to Day 4:-
Day 1- Haldi
Day 2- Mehendi
Day 3- Sangeet Night
Dress Code- Lehnga
And some candid posing
Day 4- Wedding Night
Dress Coordinated- Saree
And, the expression says it all. Until, the next grand reunion- Ciao!
